It is that time again! The start of a new anime season. The spring season seems it will have a decent line up, I have my eyes on a good number of anime that i will give a chance this season. The anime’s that will be checking out this season are Red Data Girl, Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru, Ginga Kikoutai Majestic Prince, Devil Survivor 2: the Animation, Aku no Hana, Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai, Shingeki no Kyojin, Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199, Arata Kangatari, Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S, Kakumeiki Valvrave, Hentai Ouji to Warawani Neko, Suisei no Gargantia, and Miyakawa-ke no Kuufuku. I know that is a lot and i am not saying i will be watching them all at once.
There is also a good number of OVA’s coming out, Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! has three coming out and i feel they are needed since the ending of the anime wasn’t all that good and kind of a let down in my opinion. Of course i will be doing reviews from time to time on the anime’s i am watching so keep a look out for them. Below is a chart of all that is coming out this season and a quick review of Red Data Girl(RDG)
Hmm Red Data Girl, I’m not sure how i feel about this one yet. I’m happy it’s not really moe lol cause the winter had a ton of moe anime come out, a little to much if you ask me. RDG’s first episode introduced the characters but it isn’t till the second episode that you can a taste of the plot and what is going on. Even in the second episode you still don’t have a full understanding. I won’t say what go’s on cause i don’t feel like giving out spoilers at the moment, but i will keep up with this one for a little longer as it seems like it could tun out to be a really good fantasy anime.
Well that is all i have for now, till next time enjoy!
It has been awhile and we have been busy. This last weekend Razor and i took a little trip down to KC to see friends and see what we can find. We did find some neat stuff and we got to see many cool things. We went to Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art for the Chinese New Years. Where they were displaying a bunch of Chinese art and having a bunch of lessons about the Chinese culture. One of the sculptures that blew us away was the The bodhisattva Guanyin
This thing was carved from one tree trunk! You hear me one TREE TRUNK and all by hand too. If you live in the KC area we do suggest you go and see this amazing event.
Now back to the topic at hand. It was a fun to go out of state and go on the hunt for the hard to find stuff though i would like to find all the places the locals know where to go in KC. So if you read my first post about the winter 2012/13 anime line up, you would remember that I was highly looking forward to Tamako Market. It is Kyoto Animation’s newest anime and it is all original. Tamako is a mochi-loving high-school freshman whose family runs a mochi (rice cake) shop in a certain town’s shopping district. She enjoys her high school life with her friends Midori and Kanna in the badminton club. She also helps out at her family’s shop and develops new mochi.
Tamako market is a slice of life/comedy anime, it even comes with it’s own talking bird. The first episode i felt was really good, The character’s look like they are from K-ON but that is because most of the K-ON staff is working on this anime. I feel that is a very good thing cause K-ON was really really good. It wasn’t over the top funny and the episode flowed really well which i think are both good things. Kyo-ani has a way to find perfect balance to there show’s and they did it again with this one, well at least the first episode. I highly suggest this anime to everyone.
Shinsekai Yori is a anime from the fall line up of 2012 but i felt like adding it to this post cause i just started watching it this week and am almost caught up on it. In the future Japan has become a fractured country, and small towns now exist. The rulers of this world have the cursed power of Telekinesis. When an incident occurs, 5 children come to realize the world is not as it seems, and learn the bloody history behind this world. These 5 children unite and help the world as it falls into a downward spiral of chaos.
I wouldn’t have added this anime if i didn’t feel it was one of the better fall 2012 anime’s and there are a lot of good animes for that season. It is a darker anime that has not opening credits at all which I find odd but also a nice change of pace. It can get a little confusing at times but in the end it always seems to make sense. There are a few plot twist in the show that will keep you drawn to it. They also seem to make the character’s forget there memories. It is not a slow pace anime like it may sound. There seems to always be something going on. I say give this one a try also.
Alright, this is a follow up to my previous post about the winter 2012/13 line up. I have seen some more of the anime this season and here is my thought on the recent one’s I have watched. *Spoilers Ahead*. Let’s start things off with Amnesia. I gave Amnesia more patience then i normally do for a show’s first episode because I knew from the plot that it will be a slow build up of the story. The first episode started out with Heroine waking up to a voice she hears in her head stating that someone was coming, Then soon after the opens and in walks a boy. A little bit later another boy walks in and they all start having a conversation and the two walk her home. The whole time Heroine doesn’t remember who either of the boy’s are. Later in the episode the owner of the voice in Heroine’s head show’s himself and explains how she came about to having amnesia. The episode ends with her being confronted by three girls and claiming she broke a promise.
Granted the show moved slowly but I was expecting that, The first episode gave you the just of the story line but didn’t tell you everything. It left you wondering who she really was and what was the promise she made to the other girls. It also left you wondering who and what the deal was with all the other characters you meet in the first episode. It did all this while not being that boring at all. I am looking forward to more of this series and if you like drama’s or romantic anime you should give this one a try. I do feel there is a lot that has been left out of the story line.
Zettai Karen Children: The Unlimited Hyoubu Kyousuke is a spin off of the show Zettai Karen Children. If you don’t remember it that is ok, cause I remember very little about the show and I know I watched a good part of it. This show on the other had I feel will be one of the better show’s of the season. The first episode starts out with a lot of action in the beginning and has it slow down for the middle where it starts to lay down the story line and then the action pick’s up again at the end. It is well animated and nicely done. Kyōsuke Hyōbu is the main character in the show and he lets himself get caught and imprisoned to save Yūgiri who is a member of his group called P.A.N.D.R.A. It also introduce’s Andy Hinomiya who is a prisoner at the same jail that Hyōbu breaks in to and escapes with.
So far of all the show’s i have seen, this one has been the best in my opinion. It is far better then the original cause it already leave more of impression on me then the original one did. The story moves along smoothly and the character’s are really well written. It left me wondering what Hyōbu’s plan’s were and who Hinomiya really was. He seems to be a ex us solider that is a spy now? It really leaves it open to where this story is going cause they could go anyway they would want with it.
Senran Kagura, oh boy where to start. It reminds me a lot of Queen’s Blade, A lot of fan service, a dull plot that we have seen before and not the best animation. It center’s around five high school girls training to be ninja’s in modern times. They basically tell you what the show is about in the first episode but don’t really go beyond that. You see the five girls fight some delinquent’s that just turn out to be puppets.
This show has a lot of boob bouncing, grouping of boobs from other girls, and girls doing half naked magical transformations to get in to there ninja gear/getting there outfit tore. All there body shapes are the same, they just have different face’s and hair styles. Don’t get me wrong, cause you can have a lot of fan service like that and still have it be a good story. Ten Ten, Rosario + Vampire, and Ikki Tousen were all capable of doing this while having a good story line. Some of it was over the top but with those show’s you could look over it cause the story keep you drawn in. This show on the other hand doesn’t really do that or rather it didn’t do it for me. Still take a shot at it cause remember this is just my thoughts, Who know’s maybe you will like it.
Whaaa new anime already? In my eyes 2013 will have to have a lot of good anime for it to be as good as 2012 was. As I have said before, I felt 2012 started off a little slow but once spring hit, it really took off. The fall 2012 line up of shows was the most I had been watching weekly in a long time if not ever. I am said to see some of my favorite shows from 2012 end but that allows even more shows to capture our imagination and hearts. So with out any further rambling here are the winter shows that am most looking forward to and my thoughts on the first episodes i have seen them. I will also add plot of the show.
Ai Mai Mi - The story follows girls in a manga club — Ai, Mai, Mī, and Ponoka-sempai — who might be fighting evil invaders threatening Earth, facing off against rivals in tournaments, and dealing with other absurd situations when they are not drawing manga.
Thoughts – Ai Mai Mi’s first episode was short and all over the place, Just what you would expect from a 4 kroma manga lol It was very funny and i enjoy the 8-bit ending to it.
Aoi Sekai no Chuushin de – In the battle for supremacy in Consume (Console) continent between Segua (Sega) Kingdom and Ninteldo (Nintendo) Empire, the light-footed Gear (Sonic) appeared to defend his kingdom from the threat of Ninteldo’s powerful emperor, Marcus (Mario).
Thoughts – I found it funny that they used video game consoles and character names for country’s and names in this series. Don’t let that fool you in to thinking that this is just a anime that is going to be making parodies of everything related to the two console’s cause that is not true. The plot for the series is pretty solid and they get a lot of it out in the first two episodes. Tezhilov has a lot of dirty jokes and is kinda a perv in the show but that keeps it on the lighter side of things and i find that good and it isn’t too over the top so far. I like what I have seen from the first two episodes and will keep watching this series to see where it goes.
Cuticle Tantei Inaba – The story revolves around Hiroshi Inaba, a private detective, and part-wolf-part-human being who was created artificially. Hiroshi runs his own detective agency and solves cases with the help of his cross-dressing secretary Yuuta, and Kei, a “relatively normal” teenager. The plot centers on Hiroshi and the gang trying to arrest his arch-nemesis Don Valentino, a mastermind goat with a taste for money (literally).
Thoughts – This anime is all over the place and it try’s really had to be funny that it doesn’t work for me. The characters seem to be over the top and i didn’t like how the plot just jumps all over. But remember this is just my thought.
Inferno Cop – The story deals with those in this world who dwell in the dark, invisible to the naked eye. From time to time, these figures bare their fangs and attack people. Inferno Cop is a messenger of justice who came from the depths of hell to protect people from them.
Thoughts – Inferno Cop, is something else. The episodes are 3 mins long and are hilarious, epic piece of work. I highly suggest this anime if you are of the older crowd. The staff for the show has worked on some really good anime in the past. The staff includes Supervisor: Hiroyuki Imaishi, Concept Design: Shigeto Koyama (Gurren Lagann, Eureka Seven, Star Driver) ,Plot Development: Hiromi Wakabayashi (Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, Gurren Lagann), Series Director: Akira Amemiya (animation director on Gurren Lagann, Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt) and the studio is Studio Trigger who’s co-founded by Hiroyuki Imaishi and Masahiko Ohtsuka.
Mangirl! – “We’re going to launch a manga magazine. A team of girls with zero experience in manga editing are off and running toward their dream of creating the biggest manga magazine in Japan, They seem to do nothing but run into problems and failures… But still they’re working hard every day.”
Thoughts – Another one of the three min anime’s. It seem’s it will be alot of comedy as the cast doesn’t really know about running a manga magazine. . The three min’s doesn’t really give it much time to tell if the show will be good or not, but it is able to lay out the plot fairly good.
Maoyuu Maou Yuusha – The story is set in a world embroiled by war between Humans and Demons. The Humans’ greatest hero invades the Demon Queen’s castle determined to vanquish her. However, instead of fighting back, the Queen proposes an alliance with the Hero. She explains how a sudden end to the war can bring further chaos to the world as the Humans once united to stand against their common enemies would eventually begin fighting among themselves, with similar issues already occurring at the Demon Realm. Convinced by her words, the Hero joins forces with the Queen and together they execute a plan to bring prosperity and a lasting peace to both Humans and Demons alike.
Thoughts – I found it was a entertaining first episode and it laid down the plot really well. I feel this one will have some fan service(most shows do now a days) but it won’t be over the top like Queens Blade. I like the art style and I also enjoy how strong of the character the main female lead is. The main male lead seems to be your main male lead that doesn’t really know what to do when it comes to girls.
Ore no Kanojo to Osananajimi ga Shuraba Sugiru – Eita enters high school aiming for the National University School of Medicine. Because of his parent’s divorce—and his goal—he shuns anything to do with romance or love. One day Masuzu, the school beauty with the silver hair, who has just returned to the country, enters his life in a most unexpected way. Chiwa, his childhood friend since elementary school, will not let this go without a fight.
Thoughts – I always do love a good harem, so i will be giving this one a shot.
Vividred Operation – The story is set in a futuristic and peaceful world made possible thanks to the invention of the “Expression Engine”, which solved an energy crisis five years prior. When a strange alien force threatens the world, a young girl named Akane Isshiki takes up a battle suit and takes the threat on.
Thoughts – This is one that I am looking forward to seeing. The artwork looks really good from the little I have seen of it. I just hope it isn’t a let down
Amnesia – On one fateful day, August 1, the heroine lost all her memories. In order to gain them back and to ease her pain in remembering, she tries to interact with ‘him’ hoping to live each day as happily as she can, and to make a bright future with him…
Thoughts – This is another on of the anime’s I am looking forward too. I do know it is made after the otome game by the same name on the PSP
Hakkenden: Tōhō Hakken Ibun – Five years ago, almost every villager of Ootsuka died due to a tragic plague. But mysteriously enough, three survivors: a girl and two boys, emerged. Now living in a church, the three live in isolation, hidden from those who may seek to find them. Shino, one of the survivors, has control over the power of Murasame, the blade of life. But when the imperial church seeks to take the Murasame for themselves, their peaceful life becomes a thing of the past…
Thoughts – I am guessing this should be a show hat is full of action and be fairly fast pace.
Tamako Market – Tamako is a mochi-loving high-school freshman whose family runs a mochi (rice cake) shop in a certain town’s shopping district. She enjoys her high school life with her friends Midori and Kanna in the badminton club. She also helps out at her family’s shop and develops new mochi.
Thoughts – This is Kyoto Animation’s new series so it has a lot to live up to since almost of there other stuff is good. This is a all original story with some great people working on it. I am looking forward to this show and am expecting it to be good.
My thoughts so far on the winter line up is that there are way too many 3 min anime’s. I do not know what they are trying to do with 3 min anime’s, but i really feel you can not get much across in three min’s and if it has a plot your going to be rushing it i feel unless the show isn’t serious at all. At the moment i feel this season of anime is weak but there is still a few i haven’t seen yet. Don’t let my thoughts judge what you watch and don’t watch. I am always open to trying out new anime, cause i know that there are some i would have over looked if i hadn’t gave them a chance. I hope all of you can find one to two shows at least to watch from this season and enjoy them. I will put up more post on the other anime’s that i am looking forward too once i get to see them. Tell then enjoy!
Today as we were out and about looking for other things, we rescued some great VHS tapes at Collectamania in Des Monies, Iowa. We found:
- Fist of the North Star (movie)
- Tokyo Babylon Vol 1 (screening only version)
- Robotech Vol 1
- Bubblegum Crash Vol 2
- Outlanders (screening only version)
- Gundam Wing – Dark Shadows
- Barefoot Gen (unopened trailer and screening preview VHS)
So my thoughts on K, since the final episode was yesterday.
K is a strange anime, It has some plot twist and can be a little confusing at times. The ending I felt was really good and I see they are making a squeal to it. I do suggest it cause it is a good watch, It is not a waste of time like Girls and Panzer. If you are wondering what K is about here is the plot summery from ANN:
Ashinaka High School is known for its unique setting: the entire campus is built on an island. Yashiro Isana, aka Shiro, is having lunch with a cat on one of the school rooftops. After his lunch break, Shiro goes on an errand for his classmate Kukuri to prepare for their upcoming school festival, only to be chased by some intimidating-looking men.
My takes on the 2012 anime I have watched so far this year. 2012 has been a really good year for anime I feel. At first it was feeling kinda weak but the summer and really the fall line ups have been amazing, there are so many anime I will buy from this year when they come out here in the US. I can’t wait!
Ones I have finished:
King of thorn – was a really good OVA, well worth a watch.
First Squad – Also really good OVA. Was a lot different then I thought it would be well worth it
Redline – Amazing art work and awesome story. It is one I highly suggest
Guilty Crown – My second favorite of the year, I know it didn’t start in 2012 but it finished in it Highly suggest it
Sword Art Online – By far what I feel is the best anime of 2012. Awesome story and artwork to back it up. Really hoping they do a second season since I know there is a lot more to the story
Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! – Great story and awesome artwork. Kyoto Animation always does good work, Just I felt the ending was kinda weak. Was looking for a little bit more for it. but it is worth the watch and will take you back to your younger years.
Code Geass: Boukoku no Akito – I know this is a OVA series and only the first one is out but It is the same as the Code Geass series. And what I mean by that is it is really good.
Ones I haven’t had a chance to finish yet (reasons for not finishing them are many things like got distracted by another anime or busy with cons or other trips and such:
Mouetsu Pirates – Is a fun anime with a good story line. Will finish it.
Another – A dark anime that I really enjoyed and will finish soon
Black Rock Shooter – It’s BRS of course i’m gonna finish it. And yes I find it good
Hagure Yuusha no Estetica – Story has a good plot. I have only watched a couple episodes but will finish it in the future
Tari Tari – Watched a good number of episode and the story line is decent but really didn’t pull me in like I would have liked it to
Kokoro Connect – Good anime with a few plot twist, which I liked but sometimes feels like it drags on, only have a couple of episodes left so I will finish it soon.
Busou Shinki – Haven’t gotten in to it too far but what I seen I liked
Girls and Panzer – I don’t have much to say about this anime. I couldn’t even finish half of the first episode. To me it was just terrible.
Space Brothers – Was really good, I need to pick this one back up lol
Sukitte Iinayo – Have only watched the first two and its pretty funny
Accel World – I really need to finish it. It is one of the best anime of the year i feel
Anime I am currently watching weekly:
Magi – What i feel is one of the best fall anime’s out there
Robotic;Notes – I feel it is right there with Magi. Seems they’re two plots going on but there intertwined with each other and that is making it a really good show
Btooom! – Really liked the manga and the anime isn’t disappointing me
Code Breaker – Nice and solid anime
Initial D Fifth Stage – Oh the joys of a younger me come back with this one. One of my favorites of all time and I am so happy they have brought it back and it continues to be just as good as the others
K – Very strange anime but I have really been enjoying it as the story unfolds more and more.
Zetsuen no Tempest – Love the artwork on this one and story is just as good. It has also taught me that trees can be evil!
Anime from this year I plan on checking out:
Space Battleship Yamato 2199
Winter 2012/2013 anime I plan to check out, Some of these haven’t started yet:
Ai Mai Mi
Bakumatsu Gijinden Roman
